Droid Arabic Kufi

Droid Arabic Kufi is a historical Arabic screen family designed by Pascal Zoghbi. This archived Google Early Access release is useful when maintaining an older interface whose layout was built around its proportions.

Preserve an existing layout deliberately

Google’s description connects the design to ChromeOS and Android and describes a Kufi adapted for screen reading. Its generous internal heights give labels a distinct texture. Those proportions also affect navigation height and the amount of space needed around a line.

Before replacing a legacy installation, compare full menu labels, counters and wrapping at its original sizes. The downloaded Arabic files do not contain a complete Latin alphabet. Droid Sans was the intended Latin companion, but it is not included here. This is an archived reference, not a promise of ongoing updates or a new variable family.

Files, weights and supported scripts

The ZIP contains 2 original TTF files, version 1.00, with the license. Available preview weights: 400, 700. The supplied source covers Arabic, Persian. It has no complete Latin alphabet; choose a separate Latin family for mixed-language text.

For a fresh interface study with built-in Latin and variable weights, try Mada’s Cairo-signage-inspired forms. Compare complete labels with the archived Kufi layout; a replacement may change heights, spacing and line breaks.
