Grafikar Zawaya: angular Arabic titles in Regular

Grafikar Zawaya gives an Arabic heading a narrow, angular silhouette. Designed by Ammar Bouras for GrafikarFonts, it combines tall straight strokes, squared counters and a matching geometric Latin. Try it on a short exhibition title, a cultural poster or a graphic cover.

Build the composition around the word

The repeated verticals create a strong rhythm, while the long horizontal connections can stretch a line unexpectedly. Start with the final title rather than a single attractive letter. Leave room above it for diacritics and compare the spacing around punctuation before aligning the whole block.

At small sizes, the thin strokes and tight internal spaces become harder to judge. Keep explanatory copy in a quieter text face. Inter can support Latin captions; compare its apparent size with the Latin already included here before mixing the two.

For a less rigid geometric rhythm, compare Reem Kufi. Hani offers a heavier, more compact title structure. Browse other Kufi fonts and test your phrase in the poster and advertising selection.

What this download includes

The downloadable font is the original Regular TTF, version 1.002, at weight 400. Upstream also supplies different Light and Bold drawings, but all three binaries declare weight 400 internally. Only Regular is included here; the other drawings remain available from the official repository. Avoid expecting automatic Light/Bold selection when installing those upstream files.

The Regular has Arabic and Latin characters, Persian letters, digits and ordinary Arabic diacritics. Marked Arabic, lam-alef and Persian samples passed shaping checks. Those checks do not establish suitability for long reading or every vocalized composition.

Use and redistribution

The SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits commercial projects and redistribution under its conditions. Keep the supplied license with redistributed files and respect the reserved name “Grafikar Zawaya” when modifying the font.
