Layla Koufi is a pointed, angular Arabic face by Mohammed Isam, released as part of the Layla project. Its strong uprights and sharp terminals give a short heading a recognizable outline. Choose it by testing the actual words of a cover or poster rather than a single decorative letter.

One weight with a particular display voice

The supplied version 2.0 has one Regular style at weight 400. Increasing the font size makes its corners and stroke endings more prominent; there is no accompanying bold file in this package. Establish hierarchy through size and spacing, and keep synthetic bolding out of the first comparison so you can judge the original drawing.

Within the Kufic collection, Reem Kufi provides a calmer geometric alternative. Compare Noto Kufi Arabic when a project needs paragraphs and several real weights as well as a heading. Layla Koufi’s value is its particular angular treatment, not a promise to cover every part of a publication.

Joining works; dense marks need proofing

The original contains Arabic, common Persian letters, Basic Latin, Western numerals, and Arabic vowel marks. Contextual substitutions join Arabic letters and produce lam-alef in the tested samples. There is no GPOS table for mark positioning, however. A shaping engine can supply fallback placement, so inspect stacked marks and fully vocalized lines in the final application before accepting a design.

For Arabic advertising, try the built-in Latin for short supporting details. Those Latin letters and numerals are credited to Basharat Ali’s Urdu Khush Khati. Source Sans 3 is another pairing to test for addresses and explanatory text, with its apparent size matched to the Arabic heading.

Download with the project notices

Compose a sample using the Arabic keyboard, then follow the font installation guide. The ZIP retains the original TTF, font log, copyright notice, and SIL OFL 1.1 license. Commercial use is allowed under that license; redistribution and modifications must respect its conditions and the listed Layla Reserved Font Names.

Compare Hani’s block-like Arabic forms with Layla Koufi’s pointed corners. Both downloads supply a single weight; choose by the spaces inside the actual title rather than by adding synthetic bold.
