Shahab

Shahab is Mohammad Saleh Souzanchi’s modern Persian and Arabic Naskh. It provides one regular weight for reading-page experiments, with an upstream emphasis on print and higher-resolution output.

Start at a generous reading size

The English and Persian README differ on the suggested minimum screen size: one mentions 12 pixels, the other 18. Rather than treating either as a guarantee, begin above 18 pixels and inspect the real text on the target display. For print, work from a final-size proof.

Use a representative paragraph containing the punctuation and marks your publication needs. The single style cannot supply a designed bold for emphasis; establish hierarchy through size or a separate family. Arabic and Persian letters are present, but a complete Latin alphabet is absent. References in Latin therefore need their own font selection.

The ZIP contains 1 original TTF file, version 0.0.2, with the license. Available preview weights: 400. The supplied source covers Arabic, Persian. It has no complete Latin alphabet; choose a separate Latin family for mixed-language text.

Compare Amiri for a literary page and Lateef for another reading-oriented Arabic-script family.

If headings require several designed weights and Latin references, inspect Alyamama’s variable Naskh with included Latin. Its default is 300; compare actual paragraphs instead of mapping Shahab’s regular style directly to that opening setting.

License and source

Personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution are permitted under SIL Open Font License 1.1. Keep the included license and notices when distributing font files. Shahab is a Reserved Font Name; check the license before naming a modified version. See the official Shahab source.
