Jomhuria

Jomhuria is a dark Persian, Arabic and Latin display font for posters and short headlines. Kourosh Beigpour drew its Arabic script; Eben Sorkin designed the Latin to share the same strong visual presence.

Stencil heritage for a large headline

The starting point was Shablon, an Iranian stencil design. Jomhuria reinterprets that reference rather than reproducing a stencil alphabet unchanged. Its compact, heavy shapes can establish a poster’s main message before the reader reaches the supporting text.

Choose the final headline first, then judge counters and dots at the intended display size. A single word can look convincing while a longer sentence becomes too dense. The nominal 400 weight is already dark: it is not a light text face, and applying synthetic bold will not create a carefully designed second weight.
