Arad in ten weights for Arabic and Persian text

Arad is a contemporary Arabic and Persian family by Mohammad Darvishi with Latin letters in the same file. The 2.500 edition supplied here provides ten original static TTF files, from Thin to ExtraBlack, with the standard dot design. That makes each weight available without variable-font settings.

Understand the file you are downloading

The download includes ten official static weights, numbered 100 through 1000. Choose a separate font file for each weight your layout needs. The project also offers a variable font and alternate dot designs in its official repository; those are not included in this package. Persian-digit and non-Latin editions are separate options as well. Keeping the selection explicit avoids mixing similarly named builds in the same project.

Use the current MohamadDarvishi repository when comparing releases; older packages do not describe this exact build. Within the modern sans collection, compare Shabnam for a more compact selection of styles and Vazirmatn for another screen-oriented Arabic and Persian family.

Check language behavior before choosing

The files contain Arabic and Latin alphabets, common Persian and Urdu letters, vowel marks, and Western and Arabic digits. However, the current project README specifically calls for further testing of Kurdish and Urdu contextual alternates. A character map alone does not establish that every word will shape as a reader expects.

For websites and apps, begin with ordinary interface labels at weights 400 or 500, then test heavier headings. The built-in Latin makes a useful first pairing. Kanit is another candidate for separate Latin content, but compare apparent size, numerals, and punctuation in your actual layout.

Proofing and reuse

Prepare Arabic samples with the Arabic keyboard and use the font selection guide to review small text and line spacing. Arad is distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, with Arad declared a Reserved Font Name. Commercial projects and redistribution are allowed under that license, which accompanies the original font.
