Behdad

Behdad is a monoline Persian and Arabic font by Mohammad Saleh Souzanchi. The project was dedicated to Behdad Esfahbod; this release offers one regular weight for text and interface experiments.

One weight for a restrained interface

A personal site or a small Persian information panel gives Behdad a concrete test case. Its relatively uniform stroke treatment can keep a short text block visually consistent. Build hierarchy through size and spacing before adding artificial bold, since the source contains no designed bold companion.

The upstream project lists web, mobile and desktop publishing as intended uses. That scope is a starting point for testing, not evidence that every screen size or language combination is equally resolved. Examine the actual form labels, numerals and line endings in your layout. The early 0.0.3 version should be evaluated as supplied rather than chosen in expectation of future releases.

Files, weights and supported scripts

The ZIP contains 1 original TTF file, version 0.0.3, with the license. Available preview weights: 400. The supplied source covers Arabic, Persian. It has no complete Latin alphabet; choose a separate Latin family for mixed-language text.

Compare the intended use

Compare Almarai for another interface rhythm and Noto Sans Arabic when several designed weights are necessary.

If the Persian information panel needs designed emphasis weights, compare Samim’s regular, medium and bold. Its included Open Sans-derived Latin also changes the bilingual setup compared with Behdad’s file without a complete Latin alphabet.
