Almarai is a free Arabic and Latin font family with four upright weights. It is a practical starting point for bilingual information pages, reports and web interfaces that need a restrained contemporary voice.
Geometry with open letterforms
Boutros Fonts and Mourad Boutros are credited for the design. The family combines a geometric appearance with Arabic calligraphic structure. Low stroke contrast and open shapes are central to its design; check how those qualities hold up at the actual size and contrast of your project.
Use a paragraph and a short navigation label when comparing Almarai with Tajawal. A convincing headline alone does not tell you how a family will behave in a dense form or a long report.
A compact weight set
The download contains Light 300, Regular 400, Bold 700 and ExtraBold 800 as separate TTF files. There are no italic files in this package. Start with Regular for reading text and Bold for section labels; use ExtraBold selectively for larger headings.
Four weights keep the choice manageable, but leave no Medium or SemiBold step between Regular and Bold. If your design system needs those intermediate weights, compare IBM Plex Sans Arabic.
Test the content you will publish
The supplied files include Arabic and Latin characters. Check names, dates, punctuation and any vowel marks with the software you intend to use. A font containing a mark does not ensure that a small caption will leave enough room for it. Persian and Urdu projects also need a check of their particular letters and shaping.
For formal book typography, compare the tone and paragraph rhythm with Amiri. For interfaces, inspect several rows of labels and values together, including mixed Arabic and Latin strings.
Latin pairing
Try Almarai’s own Latin first. It gives a bilingual document a consistent set of weights without adding another family. When a brand already specifies a Latin sans, compare visual size and stroke weight across scripts instead of relying on identical point sizes.
Files and license
This package contains version 1.10 and its original SIL Open Font License 1.1. Personal and commercial projects, embedding and redistribution are permitted under its terms. Keep the license with redistributed font files; selling the font by itself is prohibited.
The Google Fonts Almarai directory provides the reference files. Browse other Arabic sans fonts, type a sample with the Arabic keyboard, or use our guide on choosing an Arabic font to structure a comparison.
For a variable alternative, compare Cairo with weight and slant axes or Noto Sans Arabic with weight and width axes. Check which controls your design software supports before replacing a static family.
