Kawkab Mono is Abdullah Arif’s monospaced Arabic font for source code, text editors and fixed-pitch text. Its Latin component comes from Source Code Pro; the package includes Light, Regular and Bold.
A fixed grid does not resolve bidirectional text
Use a realistic code sample containing Arabic comments, punctuation, numbers and Latin identifiers. Monospacing helps with columns, but the Unicode bidirectional algorithm still controls how these pieces are ordered. A font cannot repair an editor’s direction settings.
The project describes ligatures as taking either one cell or a multiple of the character width, an “eventually fixed-width” approach. Check the editor and ligatures you actually use before relying on visual column counts. For tabular text, test both disconnected samples and joined Arabic words: a grid demonstrated with isolated Latin letters is not enough.
For a current coding environment, compare Cascadia Code’s variable weights and Arabic ligatures on the same comment and check cursor movement in your editor.
Files, weights and supported scripts
The ZIP contains 3 original TTF files, version 0.501, with the license. Available preview weights: 300, 400, 700. The supplied source covers Arabic, Persian, Latin.
Compare the intended use
For surrounding interface labels, compare the proportional Noto Sans Arabic. A title styled as an electronic readout can instead use Layla Digital’s segmented lettering. Its single Regular 400 style is a display effect, not a substitute for Kawkab Mono’s fixed-pitch code setting; test it on a short title outside the editor text.
For reproducing a legacy fixed-pitch editor, compare Thabit’s upright and oblique files. Its lighter source weight is 500, unlike historical metadata labels; check actual column behavior instead of matching CSS numbers alone.
