Layla Ruqaa brings a compact, flowing Arabic rhythm to a name, invitation heading, or short quotation. Mohammed Isam released it as one member of the Layla project. Its curved forms offer a different voice from the project’s angular Kufic and conventional Naskh designs.

Work with the single original weight

The supplied version 2.0 is Regular, weight 400. There is no separate bold or italic in the download. For a card, give the main name or phrase enough room to remain clear, then separate the date, address, and explanatory text through size or a supporting family. Proof the complete wording because a compact script can change the balance of a line when names vary in length.

In the Ruq’ah collection, compare Aref Ruqaa, which offers two real weights. Katibeh provides a further calligraphic heading alternative with a different Naskh-based construction. Neither comparison requires matching the same point size: adjust apparent size before deciding which treatment suits your words.

Check marks in the application that will print

The file includes Arabic, common Persian letters, Basic Latin, Western numerals, and Arabic vowel marks. Tested samples produce contextual forms and lam-alef through GSUB substitutions. There is no GPOS table for positioning marks. Your text engine may provide fallback placement, but combinations such as shadda with a vowel deserve a close check. Full Urdu behavior and dense Quranic typesetting are not established by these tests.

For Arabic invitations, the included Latin is one starting point; its letters and numerals are credited to Basharat Ali’s Urdu Khush Khati. Source Serif 4 is another pairing to test for English details. Print at final size before judging the spacing and the balance between scripts.

Prepare a sample and keep the license

Use the Arabic keyboard for your wording and the Arabic font selection guide for proofing. The original TTF comes with the project log, copyright notice, and SIL OFL 1.1 license. Commercial use is permitted under its conditions; the license also identifies the reserved Layla names.

Try Hor’s flowing handwritten forms beside the same invitation title. Its sloping movement offers a different drawing to compare with Layla Ruqaa; inspect joined letters and the space between two lines in each font.
