Thabit

Thabit is a historical fixed-width Arabic family from the Arabeyes Khotot project, credited to Khaled Hosny. Its Latin glyphs come from IBM Courier, with their original notice included in the license.

A historical grid for code and plain text

Try an old text-editor layout or a plain-text table containing joined Arabic words, Latin identifiers and punctuation. A fixed width does not determine the visual order of mixed-direction text: the editor and its bidirectional handling still matter.

The four original files include upright and oblique drawings. Their OS/2 weights are 500 and 700, although historical Google metadata labels the lighter pair 400. Our preview follows the actual file values without rewriting the originals. This legacy discrepancy matters when comparing a previous CSS declaration with the downloaded files; the family is not variable and does not offer intermediate designed weights.

The ZIP contains 4 original TTF files, version 0.01, with the license. Available preview weights: 500, 700. The supplied source covers Arabic, Persian, Latin.

Compare the intended use

Noto Sans Arabic and Almarai are proportional choices for surrounding interface text; neither replaces a fixed-width grid.

For code mixing Arabic comments and Latin identifiers, try Kawkab Mono’s Source Code Pro-derived Latin pairing. Its light, regular and bold files differ from Thabit’s selection; test joined Arabic and bidirectional ordering in the editor.
