Noto Kufi Arabic

Noto Kufi Arabic is a free, simplified Kufi family in Google’s Noto collection. Its relatively even stroke weight makes it a candidate for larger text, display headings and bilingual graphic systems.

Give the Kufi structure enough room

The official description positions this design mainly for larger text sizes. For an advertising headline, start at the size and width of the intended layout. Include the longest wording a component will need, then check word spacing and line breaks.

Compare Cairo for another contemporary Kufi-based direction. For a denser interface with smaller labels, test Noto Sans Arabic and Tajawal alongside the same component.

One variable weight axis

The original version 2.109 TTF has a wght axis from 100 to 900, defaulting to 400. The preview offers nine prepared weight positions in steps of 100. The ZIP contains the single original variable font with its continuous weight range.

A compatible design application can select intermediate weights. This file has no width or slant axis, and the download does not provide a separate italic. Treat a software-generated slant as a layout effect rather than a supplied font style.

Check hierarchy at the smallest size

Do not choose every text role from a large specimen. Inspect the smallest label, the weakest background contrast and any marked words. A weight that works on a poster may be too dense or too thin in a form.

The file covers Arabic, Latin, Persian and Urdu. Test the required words, vowel marks and mixed punctuation in the target application. Script coverage does not remove the need to check shaping and direction settings.

Latin pairing

Try the built-in Latin as a first companion. When the Latin family is already specified by a brand, compare apparent stroke weight and visual size with the chosen Arabic position. Adjust the layout rather than forcing two different strings into the same width through distortion.

The ZIP includes the variable TTF and the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution are allowed under its terms. Retain the license when redistributing files; selling the font on its own is prohibited.
