Alan Sans is a free Arabic and Latin variable family by Raphaël Ronot and Samar Zureik. Developed as a corporate typeface for Alan, it combines a grotesque foundation with softened details.

Keep interface and campaign work related

The project presents a design intended to work in interfaces while becoming more expressive in heavier weights. A useful comparison is a form label next to a campaign heading from the same product. Check whether their apparent character still feels related when the scale changes.

The source font’s default weight is 300. Try text and emphasis at several positions rather than assuming that the initial setting is suitable for all components. The Arabic is credited to Samar Zureik. Begin bilingual tests with the included Latin, then inspect buttons, numbers and line breaks in both scripts. A corporate origin identifies the project; it does not limit OFL use to Alan’s own products.

Variable files and preview weights

The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 1.100. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: wght 300–900 (300). The preview supplies 7 static styles, covering weights 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900. Compatible software can select intermediate weights from the original file.

The documented coverage here is Arabic and Latin. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.

If the specification needs real italic files, inspect Rubik’s upright and italic variable sources. Each offers weights 300–900; compare a complete bilingual component before replacing Alan Sans’s weight-based emphasis with that additional style.

License and comparison

SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.

Compare IBM Plex Sans Arabic for the same bilingual form, and Almarai for small functional labels. Browse modern Arabic fonts and websites and apps. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.
