Blaka is Mohamed Gaber’s experimental meeting of Latin blackletter and angular Arabic Kufi. Sharp edges, thick strokes and overlapping Arabic forms make it a deliberate display choice. It works best when the headline is meant to contribute a strong visual texture, rather than disappear into the content.
The supplied family is the standard monochrome Blaka. Blaka Hollow is an outlined variant; Blaka Ink is a separate color variant whose palette belongs to the font. Neither variant is included in this ZIP. Specify the exact family name when a project brief asks for outlines or built-in colors, instead of expecting the standard file to switch modes.
Working with Blaka
Use a short artist name on a poster and inspect where Arabic shapes overlap. Pair the included blackletter Latin with that name before introducing another display face. Compare Lalezar for a different heavy headline, or Noto Kufi Arabic for a more regular Kufi structure. Keep ticketing information outside the experimental treatment if the overlaps obscure it at small sizes.
Files, styles and coverage
This package supplies one original static TTF at weight 400 in the ZIP; the web preview uses prepared WOFF2 subsets. Version: 1.003. The supplied font covers Arabic and Latin.
Explore posters and advertising and other display fonts. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard; our guide to choosing an Arabic font covers selection and proofing.
For a different kind of oversized visual mass, compare Oi’s exaggerated slab-serif display design. Set the same short title to contrast that reference with Blaka’s blackletter–Kufi experiment, leaving generous space around both.
License and original files
The ZIP includes the original files and the exact SIL Open Font License 1.1. Personal and commercial use are permitted under its terms. Retain the license when redistributing, respect reserved names and do not sell the font alone. See the official source for this version.
If the brief calls for pixel construction rather than blackletter-inspired shapes, compare Sorena Normal on the same short heading. The family page explains how its separate PixelPerfect variant differs.
