Firjar is a free Arabic and Latin variable font by Yazeed Omar at Mestara Type. Its Kufi-inspired design uses straight lines and quarter-circle curves, with a name referring to a drawing compass.
Width is a design decision
The file has both weight and width axes. Its width default is 75, the condensed endpoint, so every preview on this page uses that narrower setting. This differs from a family whose default width is 100. Open the original variable file to compare the full range up to 125.
For a logo study, compare the same word at several widths before adjusting tracking or outline shapes. For a headline, check how each position changes the line break and the relation to supporting copy. Do not use condensation as an automatic fix for text that is too long; inspect the counters, dots and rhythm at the final size.
Variable files and preview weights
The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 2.971. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: wdth 75–125 (75), wght 100–800 (100). The preview supplies 8 static styles, covering weights 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800. Other axes stay at the stated defaults; adjust them in the downloaded variable font using software that supports them.
The documented coverage here is Arabic and Latin. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.
For a bilingual wayfinding study, compare Kufam’s coordinated Arabic and Latin signage design. Its supplied upright and italic sources offer a different emphasis system from changing Firjar’s width; proof complete destination names.
License and comparison
SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.
Compare Noto Kufi Arabic for another Kufi direction at a fixed width, and Cairo for a headline whose hierarchy is driven by weight. Browse Kufi Arabic fonts and logos and branding. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.
For another geometric Kufi, try Mabroum’s beta Arabic design. Its supplied file has no Latin alphabet, so plan a separate Latin companion when comparing bilingual headings.
