Handjet is a free modular variable font by David Březina and Rosetta. Its Arabic and Latin letters are built from repeated elements, giving display text a dotted or pixel-like texture.

Use the complete variable file for element controls

Beyond weight, ELGR controls the element grid and ELSH the element shape. The preview keeps ELGR at 1 and ELSH at 2. Other combinations require the downloaded original and an application that exposes custom axes; changing weight alone does not show the entire design space.

Try a short event title or a video opening where the repeated units remain visible. It is a specialized display choice, rather than a default for dense instructions. The official description reports possible rendering artifacts on macOS. Test the actual application and final export before committing a production design, particularly if the project will be passed between different operating systems.

Variable files and preview weights

The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 2.003. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: wght 100–900 (400), ELGR 1–2 (1), ELSH 0–16 (2). The preview supplies 9 static styles, covering weights 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900. Other axes stay at the stated defaults; adjust them in the downloaded variable font using software that supports them.

The documented coverage here is Arabic and Latin. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.

For a decorative Persian poster without element-grid controls, compare Fandogh’s single display style. It offers a different experiment from Handjet’s repeated units; Arabic words and marks need their own proof alongside the Persian sample.

License and comparison

SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.

Compare Lalezar for a display title without the modular texture, and Cairo for supporting information beneath the title. Browse Arabic display fonts and video titles. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.

For a single pixel style without element-grid controls, compare Erfan at weight 500. Its tested Arabic joining relies on presentation-form fallback; use short, unvocalized headings and check the final application.
