Qahiri is Khaled Hosny’s interpretation of old manuscript Kufi as modernized and regularized by calligrapher Mohammad Abdul Qadir. Its name refers to Cairo, following the custom of naming Kufi styles after cities. It offers a specific historical character rather than a neutral interface voice.
Start with a short heading, a cultural identity or a decorative composition where the letter rhythm can lead. There is one supplied weight: build hierarchy with size and spacing instead of a fabricated bold. Do not confuse Qahiri with Cairo, a different family with a broader weight range. Compare the entire word and its surrounding space before fitting it into a logo lockup.
Working with Qahiri
Place the name on a cultural exhibition cover, then test the same name beside a small Latin subtitle using the included Latin. Compare Noto Kufi Arabic for a different Kufi construction. Cairo is useful when supporting captions need a broad weight hierarchy. If the name only works after artificial emboldening, reconsider the layout or choose another family.
Files, styles and coverage
This package supplies one original static TTF at weight 400 in the ZIP; the web preview uses prepared WOFF2 subsets. Version: 4.000. The supplied font covers Arabic and Latin.
Explore logos and identity and other Kufi fonts. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard; our guide to choosing an Arabic font covers selection and proofing.
If the identity needs several designed weights, compare Reem Kufi’s 400–700 range on the same name and subtitle. Both reference historical Kufi, but that shared background does not make their proportions interchangeable.
License and original files
The ZIP includes the original files and the exact SIL Open Font License 1.1. Personal and commercial use are permitted under its terms. Retain the license when redistributing, respect reserved names and do not sell the font alone. See the official source for this version.
