Rakkas is Zeynep Akay’s single-weight display family inspired by Ruq’ah lettering on Egyptian movie posters of the 1950s and 1960s. The Arabic uses contextual alternates to evoke a calligraphic flow. The Latin takes a more informal approach to blackletter, sharing a voice without imitating Arabic shapes.
Use it for an opening title, an event poster or a short line with a deliberate retro character. Try several real words because the contextual forms can change the composition. Leave room above and below a line for the cascading shapes. For credits, schedules or longer supporting copy, introduce a calmer companion instead of shrinking this headline treatment into a dense paragraph.
Working with Rakkas
Proof a film title with a second line of credits. Keep contextual shaping enabled and check that the two lines do not collide. Compare Aref Ruqaa for another Ruq’ah voice and Lalezar for a heavier headline alternative. For the Latin title, examine Rakkas’s own informal blackletter before adding a face with a competing period reference.
Files, styles and coverage
This package supplies one original static TTF at weight 400 in the ZIP; the web preview uses prepared WOFF2 subsets. Version: 2.000. The supplied font covers Arabic and Latin.
Explore posters and advertising and other Ruq’ah fonts. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard; our guide to choosing an Arabic font covers selection and proofing.
For a greeting without Rakkas’s Egyptian cinema-poster reference, try Vibes’s playful headline design. Compare the complete recipient name and message; both supply one weight, so hierarchy needs more than artificial bold.
