Marhey is a free variable display font by Nur Syamsi and Bustanul Arifin of Namela Type. Its hand-lettered appearance and contrasting strokes suggest short, expressive Arabic and Latin headings.

Give the lettering room

Try a café poster, a festive label or a playful book title. Start with one short phrase and leave enough surrounding space to see its rhythm. Before putting the same treatment on a menu description or a caption, check that the smaller text still reads comfortably.

The supplied weight axis runs from 300 to 700, producing five preview positions. The official description lists Persian and Urdu support in addition to Arabic and Latin; test the language-specific words your project requires. For a bilingual poster, begin with the included Latin instead of adding another expressive display family immediately. A quiet supporting face can then establish a clearer distinction between headline and practical information.

Variable files and preview weights

The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 1.000. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: wght 300–700 (300). The preview supplies 5 static styles, covering weights 300, 400, 500, 600, 700. Compatible software can select intermediate weights from the original file.

The documented coverage here is Arabic, Latin, Persian and Urdu. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.

If an invitation needs a different flowing voice, try Lemonada’s rounded Naskh design with Diwani influences. Compare repeated letters and vowel marks in the welcoming phrase rather than treating every expressive family as interchangeable.

License and comparison

SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.

Compare Lalezar for a second short title study, and Tajawal for dates, prices and other practical details. Browse Arabic display fonts and advertising layouts. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.
