Mikhak

Mikhak adds KSHD elongation and DSTY dot styles to a rounded, semi-handwritten family. Previews fix them at 100 and 0; the ZIP retains all three axes.

Mikhak is a free semi-handwritten Arabic and Latin family by Amin Abedi. Its name means clove in Persian, and its low-contrast design uses rounded terminals and joints.

Kashida and dot styles are separate axes

The original variable font includes KSHD for extending Arabic connections and DSTY for dot styles, alongside weight. The preview fixes KSHD at 100 and DSTY at 0. To compare elongation or different dot treatments, use the original font in a compatible application. DSTY’s upper bound is approximately 2.9.

The project describes equal character widths across weights at a fixed design setting. Do not extend that claim to different KSHD positions: elongation changes connections and can affect the layout. Try a short friendly heading followed by an ordinary paragraph before choosing a use. The ZIP supplies the standard variable source, rather than the separate FD files or all static dot-style variants available upstream.

Variable files and preview weights

The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 3.4. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: DSTY 0–2.89999 (0), wght 100–900 (100), KSHD 100–200 (100). The preview supplies 9 static styles, covering weights 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900. Other axes stay at the stated defaults; adjust them in the downloaded variable font using software that supports them.

The documented coverage here is Arabic, Latin and Persian. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.

For a deliberately mixed workshop-poster title, compare Am-Hal’s collectively drawn letters with Mikhak’s rounded system. Am-Hal lacks آ: choose another face if the wording needs it, rather than changing the spelling.

License and comparison

SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.

Compare Tajawal for the same paragraph without changing elongation, and Almarai for the smallest interface label. Browse Arabic handwriting fonts and websites and apps. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.
