Readex Pro is a free Arabic and Latin variable family developed around the reading-focused approach of Lexend. Its credits include Thomas Jockin, Nadine Chahine, Bonnie Shaver-Troup, Santiago Orozco and Héctor Gómez.
Compare expansion using the same passage
Alongside weight, the HEXP axis provides horizontal expansion. The online preview holds expansion at its default. To evaluate it, use the original variable file and compare the same paragraph at different settings, with a fixed column width and viewing distance.
Try course material or a short interface message, then check how line breaks and reading rhythm change. A wider setting may require more space; it is not automatically preferable in every context. The project’s interest in reading does not establish a medical benefit or a guarantee for dyslexia. Choose from observed results with the intended readers, rather than an accessibility label alone.
Variable files and preview weights
The ZIP contains 1 original variable TTF file, version 1.205. Axis ranges, with defaults in parentheses: wght 160–700 (400), HEXP 0–100 (0). The preview supplies 7 static styles, covering weights 160, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700. Other axes stay at the stated defaults; adjust them in the downloaded variable font using software that supports them.
The documented coverage here is Arabic and Latin. Test actual words, vowel marks and mixed-direction lines in the application you will use. A font file cannot determine paragraph direction or replace a shaping engine.
If the reading sample also includes numeric columns, try Fustat’s manuscript-Kufi design and tabular digits. Enable the number feature explicitly; its purpose differs from evaluating Readex Pro’s horizontal expansion on running text.
License and comparison
SIL Open Font License 1.1 permits personal and commercial use, embedding and redistribution under its terms. The ZIP includes the exact license and the original files. Keep the license when redistributing the font; selling the font by itself is prohibited.
Compare Almarai as a baseline for the same reading sample, and Noto Sans Arabic to compare width choices in a different variable family. Browse modern Arabic fonts and children’s books and school material. Prepare a sample with the Arabic keyboard and the Arabic font selection guide. See the official source at the supplied revision.
